Doug Yeomans brings over 30 years of award winning performing, recording and teaching experience to young people across Western New York. Their workshops on the performance, history and profession of music are exciting and accessible.

Yeomans is one of the best guitarists to come out of WNY. He has received the North American Rock Guitar Champion 2001 and the Best Blues Guitarist 2001 and 2003 from the Buffalo Music Awards. He boasts hundreds of guitar students, and his performing career has taken him from Broadway to Los Angeles with many stops between.Doug Yeomans brings over 30 years of award winning performing, recording and teaching experience to young people across Western New York. Songwriting with Guitar

Doug Yeomans, beloved Buffalo guitarist, songwriter, and winner of the 2001 North American Rock Guitar Competition at the Buffalo Niagara Guitar Festival, offers this guitar-centered songwriting program for students in grades K-12. This program uses song composition to engage students with the writing process and can be tailored to address the specific classroom goals and interests of teachers and students. This program works best as a residency of three sessions or more.

String Talkin' Workshop

Doug scales down the Stringman Show for the classroom, demonstrating each instrument and its uses through familiar songs. Students will have the opportunity to see, hear and even touch the instruments.

Real World Rock & Roll Workshop

Provide upper grade students with a personal and memorable conversation with professional musicians about a career in music. Subjects include the business of music, equipment, music theory, recording and live performance.

Blues To Bluegrass

Explore these uniquely American musical styles. The performers share the history of the Blues, from the “field hollers” of slaves on the Mississippi Delta, up the Mississippi River to Memphis, St. Louis, and Chicago. Students learn about the stylistic changes that occurred as people and music traveled from rural to urban areas. Bluegrass is also discussed, originating with the music of Bill Monroe and other stringmen in the hills of Kentucky. A study of Blues to Bluegrass is a study of American culture of the past 100 years.

Stringman Show

Sharing the fun of music with Strings Attached! Doug Yeomans adapts this interactive performance to suit the grade level of students. During performances for the youngest children, students will sing along to familiar tunes as age appropriate concepts like counting, recognition of shapes, sounds and function help the class to learn and experience the fun of music firsthand. For middle grades, each instrument’s use and musical role is demonstrated in more depth with the possibility of trying one out. Intermediate and high school audiences are exposed to the rhythmic and harmonic structure of different musical styles and are introduced to the concept of improvisation.
