Kristin Brandt is an emerging artist whose work has been on view at Artspace, Hallwalls, Buffalo Proper and the Burchfield-Penney Art Center. She is the co-founder of the local not-for-profit Urban Canvas Project of Buffalo. Carrying a degree from Moore College of Art and Design (Philadelphia, PA), Kristin is a dedicated fine artist, designer, and instructor who is always looking to develop further professionally and creatively. In addition to a love of painting and graphics, Kristin started her own business, Yoga to You, in 2009. She firmly feels that anything you do can be an art, and is gratified by student success. With ten years of arts-in-education and arts management experience, Kristin’s personal mission is to enhance student artist lives by access and understanding of art and its movements, creativity, relativity and technique. She also loves Buffalo and is happy to see positive change.
Paint to Pixel: Ways of Seeing Art in Mathematics
This program investigates pivot points in Art History and Mathematics. Student artists are invited to appreciate the timeline that evolves fine art from Realism to the Digital Age. Some activities include Art History instruction comparing pointillism to pixels. Student artists are encouraged to find the construction of patterns in nature and architecture utilizing the Fibonacci Spiral and the golden ratio, establishing a strong math and art relationship. We will also use grids and tessellations or fractals to create community installations. We will compare and identify with student artists’ works through regular class critiques to evaluate the understanding of the lesson.
Beginning with a budget and space constraints math and science are employed to access the materials needed. A design is arrived at and then applied to the wall by a grid. Mural painting techniques are provided and the student artists create a mural either on canvas or directly onto a wall.
Yoga and Mandalas in our Environment
Learning meditation and movement and exploring mandala art. Students will learn breathing techniques, also yoga postures and meditations to assist them in the creation of mandalas. This program is applicable for a wide range of student artists.
