Arts for Life evolved from the Writing for Life collaboration initiated by Young Audiences with Renaissance Campus and Compass House in 2006 to serve young people at risk of societal and educational failure, who were struggling with addictions are homelessness. This collaboration was funded for three years by the John R. Oishei Foundation. In 2008 we started partnering with both the Erie County Youth Detention Center and Community Action Organization and our writing and visual arts program evolved to incorporate dance and music. Arts for Life has been offered with very young children as well as teens. In 2014, we are working year round in partnership with the Erie County Youth Detention Center to offer multidisciplinary learning in the arts in the Detention Center.
