Over the past ten years, Susie Rozler has been presenting to young audiences in many different musical ways: As Mama Earth Kitchen Band show (and the 4 R’s) and with Earth Spirit in Environmental Awareness Mama Songs and Nature workshops, as Susie Hill in the Hill Brothers’ many wonderfully spirited musical comedy shows, and in her own Erie Canal, PreK- 2 Math and Reading, and Susie the Singing Elf shows. Using her skills from 30 years of professional musicianship, vocal performance, voiceover performance (for radio and commercials), acting, and teaching PreK-5th grade music, she’s able to get the audience singing along, moving, and enjoying themselves while learning!

Earth Awareness: Gardening and Nature

A combination of music, art projects, and hands on interaction with artifacts, fossils and plant life from Susie's extensive backyard garden. This workshop will introduce students to the art of gardening and inspire a lifelong love of all things natural. Students will be guided through a "scratch and sniff" exploration of plants specimens while learning about the ways these plants survive, effect ecosystems and how they have been beneficial to humans throughout the ages. This workshop may be extended into a long-term residency and can explore such topics as recycling, composting, plant parts and identification, bird watching and even building a sustainable garden at your school! Types of gardens that can be created in your school include Japanese Gardens, TexMex Cacti Gardens, and a Native Habitat Garden. Supply fees will vary based on garden size and final design. The Four "R's"

At last, a show that educates every age group about what they can do to save the planet! Students will also learn why the rainforest is so important to all of us, even though it is so far away.

The four R's - rainforest, reuse, reduce, recycle - is presented in a musical format of easy sing-along songs (pop, country, rap, folk, Caribbean) with lots of audience participation. Susie's program includes songs about the rainforest and its 3 stages of flaura and fauna; how young people can reduce, reuse and recycle; and how we all affect the earth, with each generation passing it along to the next. An Earth Lullaby will be sung by all as students carefully pass the earth along, represented by a soft earth ball (one per class). The program culminates in a concert played on a recycled instrument made by Susie and some students in the audience playing easy to reconstruct instruments from recycled items and percussion instruments from around the world.

In this program, Susie sings and plays guitar, harmonica, banjo, djerido (Australia and Africa), berimbae (South America), and various recycled instruments.

A workshop supply fee of $1 per participant will apply.

Mama Earth's Kitchen Show Band

Mama Earth sings about composting, gardening, hiking, bird-watching, fossil hunting, and recycling! Susie presents sing along songs with guitar and banjo. This program fuses instruments from all over the world with "old time" Instruments from the kitchen (like washtubs) and "recycled crazy shakers". Before you know it the audience will be hooting like great horned owls, chirping like chickadees, coyotes, and katydids while moving and grooving to African, Central, and South American world beats. Mama Earth invites students to put the music in their own hands by joining the Mama Earth Kitchen Band and helps to spread the message of respect towards all of Earth's creatures.

Good Plants... Bad Plants

Learn about plants that grow in our Western New York neighborhoods, gardens. and woods by creating pressed flower art, bookmarks, and more! Students will see, smell, and feel examples of plants used for food, teas, medicine, herbs and spices used by early settlers and Native Americans. They'll learn and identify safely wrapped samples of poisonous plants and learn about their antidotes. The artist provides plants for scratch and sniff and observation as well as for the pressed flower craft activity.
