Magic Workshop: Tools for Presenting Yourself Well

Add to Wishlist
This workshop uses the art of magic to introduce students to basic public speaking skills. Presentation in magic is a lot like personal presentation:making the most appropriate choice can change in different situations. Students will watch and learn how to make their own close-up illusion. They will explore how each individual can present this illusion in a completely different way. Students will be asked to consider if their presentation would be different depending on the age of their audience. Would the location of your presentation effect one's presentation style? Students will have the opportunity to discuss and perform their illusion in small groups. Some students may present their finished work to the class.

Possibilities with Puppets

Add to Wishlist
Students discover that "Even very large goals are possible when separated into many small tasks," in this laugh-while-you-learn program. The entire audience participates in a step-by-step process, turning an inanimate object into a puppet with personality. Reading is encouraged as a research tool to flesh out the puppet's character. Students will develop the puppet's personality by making choices regarding its voice, costume and movement. Includes a discussion of story structure and writing scripts for puppet shows.

This performance may also be booked as a workshop where students may learn to design their own puppet with personality. Each student will create their own puppet based on a character from classroom reading lists.
